Description
The Giraffe Centre is a conservation and education centre in Lang'ata, Nairobi, run by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW) Kenya. It is home to a herd of endangered Rothschild giraffes and is one of the city's most popular family attractions, where visitors can feed the giraffes from a raised platform and see them up close.
The centre began in 1979 with its first giraffe, Daisy, and its breeding programme has since released more than 40 giraffes into national parks and reserves around Kenya. Besides meeting the giraffes, visitors can walk the nature sanctuary to spot birds, attend a talk on Kenyan wildlife, have a snack at the tea house and shop at the Daisy Zoovenir Shop, whose proceeds support conservation.
Entry is KSh 400 for resident adults and KSh 1,500 for tourists, and school groups should book a week ahead for morning visits. Learn more on the Giraffe Centre website.
