Description

Karura Forest is one of the largest urban forests in the world, covering about 1,000 hectares on the northern edge of Nairobi between Limuru Road and Kiambu Road. It is managed by the Kenya Forest Service together with the Friends of Karura Community Forest Association.

Visitors come for walking, jogging and cycling trails, the Karura waterfall, caves, the Lily Lake and picnic sites, as well as birdwatching and guided nature walks. Once seen as unsafe, the forest was turned around by community conservation work and is now a popular weekend escape for families, runners and schools.

Entry fees, gate information, events and ways to support the forest are listed on the Friends of Karura website.
