It was started in the Year 2008 and registered in the year 2010 by a group of like minded youths who saw the need to champion abstinence to their fellow youths. It is an initiative to bring together the youth in Kenya and all over the globe to share and interact with one another in the aim of peer mentorship in moral growth creating a platform for advocacy on abstinence until marriage and abstinence from drug abuse.
Our campaign seeks to delay youth sexual debut by changing social norms and reducing peer pressure, establishing and maintaining programs intended to help young people to reduce their risk of HIV infection, provision of training in targeted HIV behavior change for youth including training related to abstinence and delay of sexual debut, facilitation and implementation of outreach activities (which includes training) targeting youth, parents, community and religious leaders, providing opportunities for young people to participate in community outreach and collaboration with partner organizations for delivery of youth friendly services targeting young people. A big focus in working with the Youth is PREVENTION.
Abstinence Kenya is in the fore front in abstinence education programming for young people in Kenya since its inception. Currently Abstinence Kenya has taken the lead in provision of youth friendly abstinence education information and services across the country.
We have our youth recourse center in Nairobi designed to attract a diverse group of young people and meet their needs by ensuring that our service are accessible and acceptable to the young people.
The abstinence programs are run by young people and provide an environment where peers share their life experiences, learn and develop life planning skills, access information besides developing their other skills. Youth friendly services and BCC activities are supported by this program.
