Job Purpose
The primary objective of this role is to develop and execute the legal strategy for various CFAO automotive companies in Kenya, in alignment with CFAO guidelines and compliance with local legislation. The Legal Manager will provide legal support to the automotive management team, manage legal risks, review legal cases and contracts, and prepare corporate documentation to ensure compliance with statutory, legal, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
a) Develop and implement the legal strategy.
b) Lead the legal function, control corporate governance, and prepare corporate documentation following CFAO HQ Legal Department guidelines.
c) Review and prepare commercial contracts, particularly in distribution and real estate, in accordance with CFAO HQ Legal Department guidelines.
d) Manage and oversee all litigations and court cases, ensuring timely responses and actions to mitigate legal risks and exposures.
e) Coordinate the delivery of legal services by third parties, promoting innovation, continuous improvement, and an efficient legal operations model to support the business.
f) Review legal documents to ensure compliance with the law and CFAO policies and procedures.
g) Anticipate and plan for legal risks, developing strategies to mitigate them and drive sustainable growth.
h) Prepare the annual budgets for the legal section and ensure proper expense control.
i) Liaise with the HQ legal team regarding group legal compliance requirements, guidance, and provide functional reporting.
j) Serve as a legal business partner and Company Secretary.
k) Ensure brand protection and legal operations alignment with CFAO Legal department.
l) Establish and manage a local legal team, adapting Company guidelines to meet local legal requirements.
Minimum Qualifications, Skills & Experience
(a) Bachelor's degree in Law.
(b) Diploma in Law (Kenya School of Law) and a valid practicing certificate.
(c) Practicing certificate issued by the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries.
(d) Minimum of 10 years' experience practicing commercial law.
(e) Excellent communication and presentation skills.
(f) Strong working knowledge in corporate law, commercial contracts, product liability, intellectual property, employment matters, consumer law, real estate law, environmental law, litigation, marketing, sales, distribution, and competition law, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
