This job posting is for a position within a school's residential life program that requires the oversight and management of the school's swimming program. The successful candidate will work closely with the Dean of Residential Life to develop and implement a vision for the swimming program that engages stakeholders and enhances the school's reputation.
In addition to overseeing the school's swimming program, the candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with other schools and institutions to organize competitions and joint events. The candidate will also be responsible for ensuring that all necessary equipment is available and that appropriate preparation and management of all competitions and matches take place.
The successful candidate will develop and coach a strong school team to represent the school in competitions and will also develop a training program for all training sessions in accordance with the school guidelines. They will provide coaching and instruction to swimmers individually or as a group regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
In addition to their responsibilities within the swimming program, the successful candidate will also be responsible for instructing and monitoring students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage. They will provide pastoral care and support to students and ensure that simple first aid procedures are followed for injured students during sporting activities.
To be considered for the position, the candidate must possess a relevant degree in Physical Education or Sports/ Recreational Science and have at least 1-3 years of experience working with teenagers. They must also have basic refereeing skills, a Swimming Life Saver Certification, and Coaching Certifications. The candidate should possess effective coaching techniques and skills and be knowledgeable in a variety of sports and athletic programs.
The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to build relationships with stakeholders. They should be flexible and open to change and be able to handle uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity well. Problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to identify issues and find appropriate solutions. The candidate should be excited about the organizational culture and be willing to embrace mutual vulnerability and feedback. Finally, the candidate must have a desire to further develop their leadership skills and apply them to transforming the lives of African youth.
