We are seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to join our team of Implementation Scientists in Nairobi, Kenya. In this role, you will collaborate with the team to support various research tasks, including data collection, curation, cleaning, analysis, and report generation. Additionally, you will assist in transcribing qualitative data and provide translation services between English and Swahili as needed.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the development and refinement of data collection tools.
Assist in the recruitment of study participants.
Perform data collection (both quantitative and qualitative) as assigned.
Support the validation, cleaning, transformation, and comparison of quantitative and qualitative data from different sources.
Assist in data management and storage.
Support data analysis efforts.
Undertake transcriptions and translations.
Aid in the drafting of reports and presentations based on qualitative and quantitative research and analysis.
Assist in conducting literature reviews and generating manuscripts.
Participate in meetings and document meeting deliberations.
Support other activities aligned with BMI's programming. Requirements
Minimum of two years' experience in data collection, preferably in a health/academic/research setting.
Proficient in handling and managing quantitative and qualitative data. Familiarity with Redcap or Qualtrics is desirable but not mandatory.
Experience in analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, preferably using SPSS, QSR Nvivo, MAXDA, Atlas-I, or similar statistical software.
Experience with research translation and transcribing is a plus (training will be provided if necessary).
Strong ability to work independently, take initiative, and assume ownership of tasks. A natural problem solver with a proactive approach.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships and collaborate with colleagues, academic staff (including trainees, senior faculty members, and researchers) in various geographic locations.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold the security of research data, including audio files.
