The job position being offered is for a Senior Manager of Risk and Compliance in Nairobi. The job reports functionally to the Board Risk Committee and administratively to the CEO. The Senior Manager is responsible for managing two managers and senior officers. The overall purpose of the job is to provide independent oversight and management of the Bank's enterprise risks in compliance with the Bank's risk management framework, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
The Senior Manager of Risk and Compliance has a wide range of responsibilities and duties. These include developing and updating the annual risk and compliance program, charters, policies, and procedures, ensuring risk-based reviews are conducted as per the annual program, reviewing risk metrics and tools to ensure risk-based monitoring and reporting in line with current risk trends, and overseeing all risk and compliance monitoring activities. They also prepare and review risk and compliance reports for presentation to the departmental and/or branch management, provide guidance and advice to relevant functions within the Bank towards strengthening regulatory compliance and mitigating compliance risks, and participate in relevant committees, reviews, and preliminary investigations to consider and highlight compliance issues/risks and make recommendations for enhancing risk controls.
The Senior Manager of Risk and Compliance is also responsible for procuring tools and systems as required for the management of risk, serving as the point of contact/liaison between the Bank, regulators, and relevant external parties on compliance risk related matters/queries, and increasing risk knowledge of the organization through training and awareness programs. They prepare annual budgets for the department, interview staff to be recruited in the department, and perform any other roles as assigned.
The Senior Manager of Risk and Compliance has several key result areas and performance indicators. These include conducting risk-based reviews in line with the annual risk and compliance plan and budget, reviewing and reporting of risk metrics, reviewing updated tracker of enterprise risks violations, and reviewing policies and procedures. The Senior Manager is also responsible for bank-wide risk and compliance training, quarterly risk presentations to the Board Risk Committee, and people management.
To be qualified for the position, the candidate should have a bachelor's degree in a business-related field, over 10 years' experience in a relevant risk and compliance environment, and interpersonal and analytical skills. Other key competencies include integrity, confidentiality, people management skills, keen attention to details, and excellent communication and presentation skills. The candidate must also have the ability to understand and interpret financial information and principles. Experience in a financial institution is an added advantage.
