Description
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new gallery with a debut solo exhibition by Sujay Shah. Having grown up in Kenya, Sujay Shah has had a firsthand experience of the intermingling of cultural ideologies, myths, and histories. He is keenly interested in exploring how we can come to terms with colonial and cultural pasts that are deeply ingrained in our environment.
Sujay's recent paintings deconstruct, satirize, and critique some of the harmful legacies of colonialism, examining the practice of big game trophy hunting through a critical lens. Objects such as skin rugs, animal parts, and mounted animal heads, commonly found in Kenyan homes, country clubs, and Safari lodges serve as a haunting reminder of this violent and dark history. Through his art, Sujay challenges us to confront and acknowledge these realities.
