Come Celebrate, Promote, Learn, Practice yoga on the 2nd UN's International Day of Yoga on 19th June, 2016... #idy2016reloaded
United Nations adopted 21st June as the International Yoga Day on the 11th December 2014 after being co-sponsored by 175 countries. Yoga, more than 5,000-year-old physical, mental and spiritual practice having its origin in India, embodies unity of mind and body of an individual and leads to harmony between man and the nature and is a holistic approach to health and well-being.
As mentioned in the resolution document of the UN for the yoga day (A/RES/69/131), wider dissemination of information about the benefits of practicing yoga would be beneficial for the health of the world and also invites all Member and Observer States, the organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals, to observe the International Day of Yoga in order to raise awareness of the benefits of practicing yoga.
HSS Kenya (established in 1947) is observing the first UN International Yoga Day celebration in Kenya in collaboration with other organizations such as Africa Yoga Project, Art of Living, Vipassana Association, Hindu religious and Service Centre, Hindu Council of Kenya, Brahmakumari, including many other Yoga organizations in Kenya, which are all non-profit organisations who have been practicing Yoga for decades. To make this project successful, a committee has been formed with volunteers from these and other organizations and the whole event is a non-profit event.
