Description
Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a wildlife conservancy in Laikipia County near Nanyuki. Originally a ranch, it became home to the Sweetwaters Game Reserve in 1988 and was secured as Ol Pejeta Conservancy in 2003 with the help of Fauna & Flora International and other partners.
It is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, caring for more than 165 critically endangered black rhinos, and is home to the last two northern white rhinos on Earth, which arrived in 2009. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, opened in 1992 for chimpanzees rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, makes it the only place in Kenya to see chimps.
Visitors come for game drives, conservation experiences, Antonia's Kitchen and stays at Pelican House, the Stables, campsites or partner lodges. In 2014 it became one of only five conservancies in Africa on the IUCN Green List, and it also runs community and education programmes. Plan a visit or book through the Ol Pejeta Conservancy website.
