Description
Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital (WKTRH) is the main public referral hospital in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, serving the county and the wider North Rift region. It was first planned as the Trans Nzoia Teaching and Referral Hospital, was officially commissioned in August 2022 and was renamed in August 2023 in honour of the late Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa.
The hospital has about 350 to 400 beds and runs 24 hours a day. Services include emergency and outpatient care, maternity and theatre units, an intensive care unit, CT scanning and other diagnostics, renal dialysis, a laboratory, a pharmacy and mortuary services, and it operates an emergency hotline and ambulance service.
As a teaching hospital, WKTRH is set up to support the training of health professionals and research alongside patient care, and it continues to expand its specialised services. Patients can book appointments through its website. News, departments and contacts are on the WKTRH website.
