Description

Egerton University is a public university whose main campus lies at Njoro, along the Nakuru–Mau Narok road in Nakuru County. It started in 1939 as a farm school founded by Lord Maurice Egerton of Tatton, became an agricultural college in 1950 and was established as a university by an Act of Parliament in 1987, receiving a fresh charter in 2013. The university describes itself as Kenya's oldest institution of higher learning, and agriculture remains one of its main strengths.

The Njoro campus houses faculties of Agriculture, Arts and Social Sciences, Education and Community Studies, Engineering and Technology, Environment and Resources Development, Science, and Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, while the Nakuru Town Campus College covers Commerce and Health Sciences. Egerton offers certificate, diploma, degree and postgraduate programmes, open and distance learning, and is home to the Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development.
