Description

Kora National Park is a remote wilderness of dry bush, rocky hills and riverine forest on the south bank of the Tana River, bordering Meru National Park to the north. It is part of the larger Meru Conservation Area and sees very few visitors, which gives it a wild and quiet feel.

Kora is best known as the home of George Adamson, of Born Free fame, who lived and worked with lions at his Kampi ya Simba camp here until 1989. His grave and that of his brother Terence are found in the park. Rocky inselbergs rise from the bush, and the Tana River and its seasonal tributaries attract elephants, lesser kudu, hippos and crocodiles. The park also has a rich variety of insects, reptiles and birds.

Visitors usually reach Kora through Meru National Park, crossing the Tana at Adamson's Bridge, and a four-wheel-drive vehicle is essential. Accommodation is in KWS campsites or in Meru National Park. Fees and access details are on the KWS Kora National Park page.
