Description
Laikipia University is a public university whose main campus lies near Nyahururu in Laikipia County. It offers certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across several schools, and welcomes new first-year students each August.
The institution has a long history. It began in April 1929 as a primary school founded on a farm by William Thomas Alfred Levet, a colonial farmer and educationist, and the property was sold to Guy Bullen in 1959. After a period as a diploma science teachers' college, the premises were absorbed by Egerton University as a campus on 1 July 1990.
Rapid growth and strong community demand led to its upgrade to a constituent university college of Egerton University in 2011. On 19 February 2013 Laikipia University was awarded its full university charter.
Students enjoy an active campus life with clubs, sports and leadership opportunities. Programmes, admissions and fees are on the Laikipia University website.
