Description

Ngare Ndare is a lush indigenous forest at the northern foothills of Mount Kenya. Azure pools sit at the bottom of waterfalls, and 200-year-old trees support a rich variety of birds and animals. The forest is a vital corridor linking Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and northern Kenya to the Mount Kenya forest reserve, and elephants have used it for centuries.

The forest is managed by the Ngare Ndare Forest Trust, a community organisation registered in 2004 that signed a concession management agreement with the Kenya Forest Service in 2009. Its work combines conservation with development for surrounding communities.

The highlight for visitors is the tree canopy walk, a 450 m bridge suspended 30 feet above the ground, which the trust describes as the longest in East Africa. Visitors can also swim in the pools and explore forest trails.

The office is open Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 5 pm. Bookings: 0700 412 532 or bookings@ngarendare.org, or via the Ngare Ndare Forest Trust website.
