Description

PCEA Chogoria Hospital is a not-for-profit, faith-based hospital in Chogoria, Tharaka Nithi County, run by the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. Its roots go back to the Church of Scotland mission that settled at Chogoria in 1922, and the first permanent brick hospital building opened there in 1926.

Today the hospital has about 300 beds and is a main referral centre for the eastern region, drawing patients from Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Isiolo and Marsabit. Specialities include surgery, internal medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics and dental care, with dialysis, laboratory and imaging services.

Clinics cover eye care, physiotherapy, nutrition, counselling, VCT, a comprehensive care centre and special clinics for diabetes and hypertension, cardiology, dermatology and ENT. Consultants see patients at the Doctors Plaza, and the Clive Irvine College trains nurses and other health workers.
