Description
PCEA Kikuyu Hospital is one of the oldest hospitals in Kenya, founded in 1908 by Scottish missionaries of what is now the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. It grew from a small first-aid centre into a major mission hospital serving patients from Kiambu, the rest of Kenya and the wider region.
Its Eye Unit, opened in 1975, treats patients from East and Central Africa and trains eye-care staff. A specialist diabetes unit followed in 1993, the orthopaedic programme developed into a full rehabilitation centre, and a dental unit opened in 2006.
The general hospital offers outpatient clinics in cardiology, ENT, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and surgery, with a 24-hour accident and emergency centre, laboratory and pharmacy. Other services include maternity care, theatres, physiotherapy, radiology with MRI and CT, palliative care and a renal unit. The hospital also runs a nursing school and a satellite clinic in Matasia.
