Description
The University of Embu is a public university in Embu town, in Embu County on the slopes of Mount Kenya. Its motto is "Knowledge Transforms", and it offers certificate, diploma, degree and postgraduate programmes, including agriculture, sciences, education, business and law.
Its roots go back to 1947, when an agricultural training school opened on the site. It was renamed Embu Institute of Agriculture in 1968 and upgraded in 1990 to the Embu Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) College, which ran management and technical courses and offered research and consultancy services for the agricultural sector.
In June 2011 the college became Embu University College, a constituent college of the University of Nairobi. On 7 October 2016 it became a fully fledged university when President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded its charter at State House, Nairobi.
The university hosts conferences and partnerships with institutions at home and abroad. Admissions, programmes and contacts are on the University of Embu website.
