Description
Haller Park is a nature and wildlife sanctuary in Bamburi on Mombasa's north coast, and one of the best-known family attractions on the Kenyan coast. The park grew out of a barren limestone quarry left by cement production. From the 1970s, Dr René Haller led a project to bring native plants and animals back, and the site is now cited as a success story in environmental rehabilitation.
Today visitors can feed giraffes from raised platforms, watch the hippos, including long-time favourites Sally and Potty, and see crocodiles, tortoises and other animals at the reptile park. A butterfly pavilion, native gardens, an aquaculture and wetlands area, forest walks and cycling trails add to the visit, and the park hosts school trips, birthdays, weddings and team-building days.
Haller Park is off the Mombasa–Malindi Road, about 10 minutes from Mombasa city centre near the Bamburi Cement Factory. It opens daily from 8 AM to 5 PM, with last entry at 4:30 PM. Tickets and attractions are on the Haller Park website.
