Description
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a private university with its main campus in Thika, Kiambu County, and campuses and centres across Kenya and the region, including Nairobi, Parklands, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret and Meru. It is one of Kenya's largest private universities.
MKU grew out of the Thika Institute of Technology, founded in 1996 as a computer outreach programme. The institute became a commercial college in 2000, added paramedical, IT and business programmes in 2002 and, in 2005, became the first private institution in Kenya allowed to train pharmaceutical technologists. After a collaboration with JKUAT, it was authorised to become a full private university.
Today MKU offers certificate, diploma, degree and postgraduate programmes through its College of Health Sciences, which includes medicine, nursing, pharmacy and public health, and schools of business, education, law, engineering, computing, social sciences and hospitality, plus a maritime academy and online learning.
